JAY JONES NAMED 2026 JOSIE MUSIC AWARDS VOCALIST OF THE YEAR
Southern Rock/Country Rock – Male
Memphis, Tennessee artist takes home the honor at the 12th Annual Josie Music Awards
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — September 20, 2026 — Memphis, Tennessee’s own Jay Jones, the artist behind the self-described “Head Banging Country” sound, has been named the 2026 Josie Music Awards Vocalist of the Year – Southern Rock/Country Rock Male.
Jones received the honor during the 12th Annual Josie Music Awards, held at the historic Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville. The 2026 ceremony took place September 20 and brought independent artists and music professionals together for one of the year’s major independent-music events.
The award marks a significant milestone in Jones’s independent music career and adds a Josie Music Award win to a résumé that includes international chart recognition, multiple Josie Music Awards nominations, and performances alongside established country and rock acts.
A Memphis Sound With a Hard-Rock Edge
Jay Jones grew up in Memphis, a city with a rich musical heritage. After years of performing live, including fronting a local cover band, Jones released his debut album, Country Boy Proud, in 2018.
His music combines traditional country storytelling with guitar-driven rock energy — a sound he calls “Head Banging Country.” His music has connected with audiences both in the United States and internationally.
Jones’s single “Drinkin’ In A Hotel Room” reached No. 1 on the UK Hotdisc Charts, while “Too Much Whiskey” reached No. 2 on an Australian chart. His catalog also includes “Where the Dirt Road Ends,” “Dig a Hole,” “Bar Fight,” “Party Shack Anthem,” “Hell Yeah,” and “Daddy’s Little Girl.”
As a live performer, Jones has shared stages with artists including John Schneider, Keith Anderson, Tyler Farr, Keith Burns, Cody McCarver, Saliva, Buckcherry, and Stryper, among others.
Recognition From the Josie Music Awards
Founded in 2015, the Josie Music Awards describes its mission as honoring, recognizing, and rewarding excellence and outstanding talent throughout the independent music industry. The organization says submissions are reviewed by a professional judging panel and that artists across musical genres are recognized.
The 12th Annual Josie Music Awards brought nominees and independent music professionals from around the world to Nashville. The organization describes the weekend as a celebration featuring performances, networking, red-carpet events and recognition of independent artists and industry professionals.
Jones had previously received four Josie Music Awards nominations for Southern Rock Vocalist recognition. In 2026, he was nominated in the Vocalist of the Year – Southern Rock/Country Rock Male category alongside other independent artists.
Music With a Message
Jones has also used his music to address personal and social issues.
His 2025 single “Long Hike Back” was released to raise awareness of the emotional challenges military veterans can face after returning home from service. Jones has supported Irreverent Warriors and hopes the song can help someone who may be struggling.
His song “Daddy’s Little Girl” addresses the emotional toll of family separation and child alienation, continuing Jones’s approach of combining entertainment with subjects that matter to his audience.
